I've Got This!

When was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror and said, “I’ve got this!”  Been awhile? To be honest, it’s been awhile for me too. In a year of more change and unknowns than I’ve experienced in quite a while, the idea of ‘I’ve got this’ has been pretty far from my daily thoughts.  In fact, I have probably been saying the exact opposite on most days.

This morning, as I was multi-tasking during an oil change, I was listening to a woman speak about the ins & outs of starting your own business, and she said those words. As soon as she did, I stopped. Rewound her video and played them again-slowly, “I’ve.Got.This.” Wow, three seemingly simple words and yet, they’re powerful. Go ahead, say them one more time. You feel that? Confidence? A weight being lifted off your shoulders as you realize you can do this! There’s no guilt if things aren’t moving as fast as you’d like; there’s no guilt if you’re struggling to know what to do next-take a deep breath and repeat after me:

“I’VE GOT THIS!”

Imagine, if we started more days with that type of confidence! Are you a mom, struggling with your littles, preteens or teens who are going through a new stage and you, like me, find yourself second guessing every decision you make? Go ahead, momma, join with me and say, “I’ve got this!” You’re a great mom. You love your kids, and they need EXACTLY what only you can give them. You know them better than anyone else. Maybe it’s not perfect, maybe you weren’t as patient as you wish you were. Maybe you feel like you are out of ideas on what you should do next? Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you ARE patient, you ARE wise because sweet momma, YOU’VE GOT THIS!

And what about you, multi-tasking, wonder woman? Is there a promotion you wish you felt more confident to go for? Is there a client or a boss that challenges you and brings out your insecurities? You are in your position right now for a reason. You, too, are wise, you are creative, you are a leader, you are a hard-worker! How do I know this? Because, I know you, my multi-tasking, wonder woman, YOU, too, GOT THIS!

You feel that?  The more you say it, the more you start to believe it and find a confidence growing in your belly. It doesn’t matter the specifics of your situation or who you are or where you’ve come from. You CAN do whatever it is that you need to do. As a mom, I often find myself having my kids, repeat mantras like, “My name is…, and I can do hard things.” And you know what? A funny thing happens after they say it aloud. They suddenly remember that they CAN go and do the very thing that seemed impossible a few minutes before. The great thing about that little mantra, it’s not just applicable for little ones, it’s applicable for you too. Regardless of what you’re facing today or this week or this month; regardless of what does or doesn’t happen, YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS too. If only we’d take the time to remind ourselves and build our own confidence up like we do our children. After all, they deserve no less than a mom who models for them, the very thing we’re trying to grow in them.  Talk about becoming a rooted leader!

We chatted in a previous blog, Being Planted in Good Soil, about the importance of soil compaction in our life. Maybe in the midst of juggling too many responsibilities you’ve forgotten to believe in yourself and all that you can and were meant to accomplish? So, a word of encouragement, sweet friend. You were made to do great things and to impact the world in a way that no one else can. Whether that’s raising your children with a love of God, their family, themselves, their community or whether it’s impacting the lives with the people you encounter at work or the grocery store; God loves you and wants you to lean into whatever is holding you back. To trust Him to bring out everything you need-right now. God knew every day you would live and equipped you with exactly what you would need to bring glory and honor to him. He created you with a specific and good plan in mind.

2 Timothy 1: 7 tells us, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or fear, but he has given us a spirit of POWER and of LOVE and of CALM and WELL-BALANCED MIND and DISCIPLINE and SELF-CONTROL.”

I want to encourage you to wake up each morning or when you find those doubts creeping back into your head, and repeat this:  “I AM POWERFUL. I AM LOVE. I AM CALM. I AM WELL-BALANCED. I AM DISCIPLINED. I HAVE SELF-CONTROL.”

“Because of God living inside of me, I’VE.GOT.THIS!”
